Description

ACP’s Carbon Fiber/Honeycomb Sandwich Panels are ideal panels for a wide range of applications meeting flat, lightweight and rigid specifications. They are manufactured by ‘sandwiching’ an aramid honeycomb core between layers of self-adhesive, medium modulus carbon fiber prepreg. By separating the carbon fiber skin with an aramid honeycomb core, these sandwich panels offer greater strength properties than those of the skins alone.

Using carbon fiber prepreg for the outer layers creates structural skins that offer high strength-to-weight ratios, thermal and electrical conductivity, high tensile strength, low density, low weight, low thermal expansion and excellent fatigue resistance. Our sandwich panels are cured with high temperature and under pressure resulting in fully consolidated carbon fiber skins that are completely bonded to the aramid honeycomb core. The cells of the honeycomb core will not fill with resin when using a prepreg, thereby insuring the constructed panel will not retain excess resin weight.

Manufactured with lightweight, high strength aramid honeycomb, our honeycomb core sandwich panels feature higher compressive strength and lower core densities when compared to our balsa and foam core sandwich panels. The aramid honeycomb core is manufactured with high bondable properties to insure the structural integrity of the panel remains intact. To increase the stiffness of the constructed panel, a thicker core can be used without substantially increasing the weight and cost of the final product.

Tips
  • If delamination occurs skins may be re-bonded using any structural adhesive, such as slow set cyanoacrylate (CA) glue or 5 minute epoxy adhesive.
  • Sandwich panels can be cut with a cut off wheel or a Tungsten Carbide Saber Saw. Do not cut with a band saw.
